Definitely less bright fruit than the last time I had it, cocoa powder, pencil lead, some light pyrazine, and more incense than I remember the last time. Still lacking some tension, and while it has evolved a little, I think I liked it a little more previously.

Like the 2014, this was impenetrable, never really opening up over two nights. Oak was evident, but wouldn't identify this as a cab. Not sure where this is going, but I'm guessing I should have given this a lot more time!

Really nice rich New World Cab. Not my go-to style, but every once in a while the mood strikes and it struck and I really enjoyed this. Nice on PnP and over hours.
Dark fruits, mint, cedar, pine forest, fennel, a sense of sweetness that was just enough - some oak influence, smooth melting tannins. Definitely a fruit-driven wine.
Nice on its own, it doesn't get too tiring. Worked great with wet aged filet mignons, cooked rare, cast iron, finished under the broiler, toasting a topping blend of butter, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and chopped thyme, sage, and parsley.
14.5% abv, no sense of heat.
Excellent QPR at $20 USD "mystery" pricing

A year and a half later and this wine was great right out of the bottle. River rock, cassis, spruce, mocha, dried strawberry, sandalwood, subtle earthiness on the finish.

Basic dark fruit and really nothing more. Minimal complexity and a funky note throughout.
