  • Alain Graillot is a superstar in the northern Rhône valley. So I was quite eager to try his “off pist” wine which by the way comes from Marokko. The wine has a surprisingly straight forward light and juicy taste (keep in mind this is 100% Syrah). If you are into the jammy heavyweight Shiraz from down under, or the powerful Syrahs with razor sharp minerality from Cornas or Hermit- this wine might not be for you. But to me this wine has a Burgundian “feel” to it because of its lightness - not bad

  • Dinner at Galit (Chicago, IL): Graillot syrah from Morocco? Count me in, at least to try. The initial impression is somewhat dull, with not much going on with the nose or palate. It's with air where the monolithic nature of this wine seems to loosen up. The nose, initially black and unyielding, starts to reveal a mild bit of dust and olives, and the palate evolves in a pretty similar fashion as well. It's not as complex as the renowned Crozes, but it's amply drinkable all the same.

  • Plommon, chokad, björnbär och svartpeppar samt vitpeppar. Bra syra trots marockansk. Riktigt trevlig!

  • PnP. Was too warm, so used an ice bucket to give it a slight chill (~68 degrees). Would not have taken this wine for a Syrah (even if it was from Morocco). The wine was medium to minus, the fruit was bright red (raspberry), with only a touch of any pepper or spice, and balancing acidity. The wine was quaffable, but not very complex or hearty. It may serve better as a chilled summer red.

  • Somewhat unusual Syrah; simple but enjoyable, with jammy, red berry dominating. Perhaps a bit unbalanced.
