Community Tasting Notes (9) Avg Score: 92.8 points

  • Time has treated this barolo well. Better than the first bottle I drank four years ago.2 hours slow decant in the bottle. Medium light garnet red. Aromas of violets and plum. Palate is smooth, elegant with medium complexity. Soft tannins.

  • Surprisingly open for drinking after a 1 hour decant. Great fruit, balanced and so on, but I expect that this wine will score 95-96 pts with an additional 5-10 years of cellaring.

  • Decanted for four hours. Medium garnet colour. Sweet dark cherry, blueberry, iron, marzipan, sweet tobacco, and earth, with medium(+) acidity, ripe tannin, and very good length. Smoothly textured and well balanced. The medium-complex 2012 does not possess the complexity, tension and precision of the best vintages (e.g. the 2016), but it is very accessible and drinks well. Drink now and over the medium term. (77/92)

  • Italian / Spanish theme: Decided to open this because I thought 2012 was a more forward vintage and previous notes on this wine seemed to point in that direction. Elegant, red-fruited sort of Barolo, an interesting contrast to the Sandrone that followed. Acid is a little screechy at the moment but the underlying material is very good.

  • A touch of maturity in terms of looks and color. Some development on the nose but mostly a very fresh and pure breeze of red fruit such as strawberries and cherries, rosehip, balsamico and leather. Bright and vibrant, really good. The 90 days of maceration brings complexity and a tertiary component that perhaps wouldn´t show otherwise.
The wine got serious structure but also the approachable aspects that most of the 2012s got. High quality tannins, juicy and balanced. High acidity. Drinks very well but no rush whatsoever.
