My last bottle, bought for $12.95 about a decade ago. Surprisingly fresh, this on notes of melon, quince, stones fruits, nuts and citrus. Just a slightly hint of oxidation but very fresh otherwise and light on its feet. Great surprise, but then again Bordeaux just has this magic ability to age in the cellar.

Dinner with Kevin Lee (La Table de Patrick, Cochrane Street, Central, Hong Kong): Deep urine gold colour. Nose is marzipan, white chocolate, almond, nicely oxiadative...quite mesmerising. Palate has a wonderful off-dry but sufficient acidic freshness with a rich and rounded mouthfeel and similar components to the nose. A wonderful complement to fine dining seafood dishes and it also went well with the rich 'Freres Marchand' French cheese platter. Fully mature....and like a dry Sauternes. I chose it off the wine list and we both loved it.

Clear, bright gold with copper hue. Some rim variation but no sediment. The nose is medium+ intensity with vinous notes of tangerine, dried lemon, cooked melon, dried honeycrisp apples, stewed apricot, amber, toasted walnut, amaretto, honey, cream, toast, vanilla. The palate is off-dry and a bit oxidized with flavors of lemon peel, tangerine, melon, papaya, tart pineapple, cooked apricot, dried grapefruit, honey, almond, lemongrass, lavender, botrytis, orchid flower, caramel, chalk/limestone. Tannins are low with medium acidity, alcohol, finish, and complexity. A true old world wine from a cool climate.
