Cork disintegrated on opening and that alone created a concentrated moldy odor. The opened bottle was worse, odor still consistant, and there was the apprearance of a brown tinge to the corona of the wine in the glass (it ain't aged burgundy, :). Maybe transportation issues, or (in my opinion) past any realistic benefit from aging. It was "supposed to" be an "old vine" (according to some that ) that may have benefitted from such, maybe not. Also, there's a '97 Barbara out there still (same producer), that is most definitely shot as well.
