My first Coste & Fossati, this (L32-18) is among the finest Dolcetto I've ever had, right up there with the 2016 Francesco Boschis Vigna dei Prey and the Bartolo Mascarello 2013. Perhaps I'll open the Vajra and Boschis side by side and see how they compare; I have none of the Mascarello left ! Enjoyed over three nights, the wine is young and vibrant on night three and so this can easily be enjoyed until 2030. Deep dark crimson with lurid purple edges, the wine is redolent of blackberry and blueberry and has an outstanding flavor profile, with a food-friendly spicy, savory quality. It's got great structure, sappy acidity, mouthwatering tannins and an outstanding, bittersweet plum-pit mineral finish. Excellent QPR.

Easily the best Dolcetto I've ever had, though to be fair this was probably only the 6th or 7th I've ever tried, including tasting pours in the USA or Italy. Dolcetto seems like it has a ceiling in terms of the potential complexity, but this at least held some interest and nuance. Paired well with food, too. (Pizza and... alas, I forgot what else I paired it with.)

Not the beast of some previous vintages but just what a good Dolcetto should be. Bright ripe fruit, almost grapey. Excellent balance. Enjoy relatively young for the fruit.

Dark fruits, nice mouthfeel with well integrated tannins and refreshing acidity. A serious Dolcetto that still doesn’t forget his main job to be a fun and easy drink.
