  • The 2011 vintage habitually seems quite vegetable-like and green/herbal in our experience, but not in this case: initially a lot of roasted coffee, toasted bread, raw walnuts and almonds, wax, some intense, ripe exotic fruits with guava and mango; honey, black tea, chamomile and some fresh white lilies. A typically meunier-style metallic note with an oxidative touch on the finish like manzanilla Sherry, and spices such as clove and pepper.
More austere than the 2013 for sure, but pleasurable to drink, and with a decent acidity for the years to come. The Lelarge-Pugeot style is recognizable.

  • Tasted this on a trip to Reims a few years ago and liked it. Hadn't had a bottle again until we stumbled upon some recently. Age has treated this really well. Fully nose of brioche with floral over-tones. Very rich and full bodied in the mouth, comes on quickly. Would rate higher but the finish is a little short, but at this price point it's hard to complain! Interesting to contrast this with Ouriet's Vieille Viignes to Vrigny, which are from the same village and also 100% meunier.
