  • This bottle much better than the last. Not overly complex, but the wine is holding on OK. It was some redeeming, black and red fruit qualities on the pallet that were nicely integrated with a Teigning and Moderate acidity. I would say drink now, but give it some air. This bottle saw six hours of air, which I think greatly improved experience.

  • I was in the mood for Bordeaux tonight with a wonderful Lasagna my partner made. Pulled out this '98 Barde Haut from the cellar. As soon as I poured it, a strong perfume was evident which lasted well into the night on subsequent pours. And I had several pours! Lots of cedar and cigar. Upon tasting, a very full and deep wine with leather, some black pepper, and finish of black plums. I was worried upon seeing the color at first because lots of browning on the edges, but this definitely is drinking very well now. Acidity works well with the fruit. I still had the price tag on it at $25.99. Wish I bought more!

  • A long time ago I have written on the label, as an instruction for my brother, 'drink before 2013', so 6 years afterwards we have enjoyed a lovely and lively bottle. The colour was still very sound, in the bouquet ripe fruit and bitters and in the still creamy taste the bitters were quite present, as in the aftertaste, but if you think the bitters were to obvious, than you are wrong. Its a bit the '98 style having noticeable bitters and yet being classic and enjoyable. One thing for sure, the wine was absolutely not old.

  • Classic BDX. Leather, tabacco. Teriair aromas. Wine needs to be drunk now or within the next years.

Rockss and Fruit

(Chateau Barde-Haut) It started off promising with a nose of deep cassis, slight oak tones, some minerality and a palate with ripe tannins and a nice earthy sweetness. But this wine quickly went downhill and I mean quickly. The oak tannins took over and made the wine extremely bitter and the heat started to show more and more till it became oak soup with some red fruits and lots of bitter fruit flavors. I can see some people liking this. Actually many people liking this. I thought if I gave it enough age it would age the suckiness out of it but no it integrated the suckiness even more.

(Barde-Haut) Silky chocolate-infused cherry fruit along with great concentration and a full body. Ripe tannins that are sweet and silky. This performed well out of the bottle but after around two hours started to really close down.
