  • Wines in Cardiff; 4/19/2024-4/20/2024: Light yellow with a slightly less desirable green tinge.
    Appley and floral nose. Fresh.
Bags of fruit tempered by high but balanced acidity. Tastes very young and primary.
Blind I could mistake this for Puligny.
Unfortunate for this Kumeu we had this side by side with 2011 Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet Les Caillerets which was singing.
I think Kumeu’s estate chardonnay gave me more enjoyment at more than half the price.
My 2022 Mate’s will sit in the cellar for at least 10 years.
    L&W - £53

  • Opened straightaway reminds me of Puligny-Montrachet - big fruits, melon, peach both on nose and palate. Drank side by side to chassagne prem cru - think it was a bit green and not elegant enough. Probably why we pay to drink white burg. Overall a good wine but drinking with a good white burg does not do this wine much favour.

  • Deep golden. First quite closed with reductive notes, but on the palate it shows quite from the beginning that it isn't one of those matchstick wines, that never come around. Nevertheless this still needs considerable airtime and a decant. So the maturity dates on the bottle are not only conservative, but wrong in my opinion. This is still very very young, though this bottle was stored warmer than textbooks suggest. Reductive matchstick smoky mineral notes with spices and peaches, citrus. On the palate the reductive notes take the backseat and fruity peachy and citrus notes dominate along with some oaky notes, but without the new world vanilla oakiness. Two hour after decant reductive notes get less and the nose, with swirling, gets more complex adding notes of pears, herbal notes, flint, ending on intense citrus going on for minutes. Same notes on the palate. Great balance of fruit and acidity on the palate. 5/12+/17+/10. 2027-2033+

  • Delicate pear and citrus. Long finish. Excellent NZ Chardonnay from legendary winemaker.
