A Savage Bday (67 Pall Mall, London): We usual say this is the world’s most undervalued beauty and this 2017 showed only too clearly ( 2 consistent bottles) the longevity of this. Green fruited, stone fruits, citrus and with a lot of energy and presence. 4 years ago we said this needed time to absorb still some of its baby fat and on this day it was in its full stride. Beautiful wine easy 92.

A very good wine, creamy and rich. Nice acidity meeting the creamy texture very well. Accompanied a cod with sauce based on champagne and cream very weel. Ready to drink, but opens up a bit more after a while in the glass.

A Wednesday at Dave's place: [Tasted Double Blind] This pours light gold in the glass with a touch of green. The nose is lightly reductive showing struck flint, white flowers, a touch of honey, pear, green leaf, and red apple. The palate enters on lovely cooked apple and pear with medium plus balancing acid. No perceived RS. The finish is long and creamy with lovely florals and a pleasant bitter note. While some initial thoughts around the room centred on white burgundy for its reduction, dry palate, bright acidity and light mineral signature, to me this spoke of South African Chenin which I correctly identified this as.

Completely delicious. I love the creaminess and richness of the wine balanced with the citrus and freshness. So moorish and in its perfect drinking window I think

Réduction funk up front which blew off after 30 months nutes. Wet wool, Ripe, some exotic fruit with citrus. Thicker than expected. Interesting
