  • As expected with most Aglianicos (I should have known better!), way too young. A wall of tannins masks pretty much everything else. I suspect this will be much better in 4-5yrs or so. I am witholding judgement.

  • Interesting aroma of black cherries and dried Mediterranean herbs.
Nice fruit flavor followed by a dry dusty tannic finish.
Opened up over a couple of hours. drank with a Pizza. My friend liked this wine much more than I did. This wine is different and has a unique character.
This wine may be better with more age. I have another bottle that I will open in the future

  • I'm not a fan of this wine. It has a sense of seriousness that makes me reluctant to dismiss it, but the tannins are oppressive and the fruit is tart. It's hard for me to see how this is going to age into something pleasant.

  • Don't open this wine now unless you're doing it for education instead of pleasure. This wine is far too tannic to enjoy now (among other problems).

The nose of this wine is interesting and shows why some wine experts consider aglianico to be one of the noble red wine grapes. To me, it is a dark cauldron of unresolved aromas that currently include lumber, singed rubber, black cherries, and violets. (I grew up around lumber used for roof trusses, and this is what it smells like.)

This wine is awful on the palate. It starts off with sweet black cherries but then evolves into the sensation of chewing on wood.

I don't know how this will age, so I won't give a rating. I lean toward WETROCK's opinion that there is not enough fruit weight for this to age well. But unless your palate is much rougher and tougher than mine (I doubt it), this wine is not drinking well now.

  • Very dense fruit. Loads of tannin. This shows a lot of extraction. No real signs of wood or over-ripeness. But it is pretty ripe. There is a green streak in the tannin that shows up strong on the third night. This is one of those wines you would be tempted to age but I'm not sure there is depth of fruit here for that. I've seen wines like this that don't really age all that well. The fruit drops off and leans out leaving a husk of a wine. I'm not sure what they are after with this. It's a solid wine as is if you want density and tannin. But I'm not sure that's what many people want. I think this could be a better wine by cutting some daily punchdowns out.
