  • Plum, strawberry, and an earthy note on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, plum, and notes of tobacco, savory herbs, and rust on the long finish, with strong tannins and strong acidity. This is early in its drinking window, and it should improve. It was an excellent value at about $35.

  • Big and still singing. Loads of wood, tobacco notes, plums, and powerful tannin structure but yet quite accessible. Still needs some air after opening but definitely in its prime drinking window.

  • The wine is so big. It is immediately sweet with blueberry and ripened cherry, and a smoked presence. Mid palette introduces iron. Finish is slight sweet prune with ripened berry.

  • Xtremo blind tasting with this beaut supplied by Blanco. I opened this wine hours before drinking, and that foresight paid off as this is a big, bruising tannic wine that needs as much air as it can get. And the wine changes dramatically with proper decanting. Dark ruby red color, with slight bricking. Aromatic nose of berries, some shoe leather and violets. Full-bodied, muscular and tannic, this wine is not for the feint of heart. There's lots of cherries, tho not overly ripe. In fact, there are vegetal notes here along with plenty earth, barnyard, leather and tar. I personally was surprised by the 15% alcohol as I didn't notice it being overly hot, but what do I know? Enjoyable wine, tho it faded measurably on the second nite when I finished it off. Leave it to Blanco to find the value wine of the season!
