  • Nothing like the previous two bottles. Fruit was MIA. Weird.

  • A blast with buds (Washington, DC): Deep lemon color. A nice mix of oyster shell and sea spray with richer pear and lemon curd elements. Deep texture, lovely honeyed feel, nervy acidity. Oaked but nuanced, and a ton of salty, ocean spray tones. Beautiful stuff, quite young, I’d like to see this in a few years.

  • Popped, poured, consumed over next three hours. Similar to previous, still enjoyable. Oak was a bit too proud for the first sixty minutes, but it did eventually come together. Needs air or more time in cellar.

  • Clean and pure with just enough citrus punch to have you believing it's a 1er Cru. Not exceptionally captivating or overly complex at this stage, but indeed a fresh representation of Chablis. This may have just a hair more concentration than the base model '17 Bourgogne Chablis from Christian Moreau, but I honestly couldn't tell much difference between the two. In that vein, QPR-wise, the Bourgogne is the better buy ($25-30) over the 1er Vaillon Guy Moreau ($60-70+).

This is worthy of its 1er Cru status, but it's not necessarily a standout, nor is it one of those 1ers that starts to push into Grand Cru territory. A satisfying wine indeed, but using this Vaillon as a reference point, I'd either prefer to save a couple bucks and just get the Bourgogne, or splurge and venture into some of Moreau's Grand Crus (which are exceptional).

92-93 points for the 2017 1er Vaillon Guy Moreau. Sealed with DIAM 10. Probably worth holding for a few years to see if it can gain some depth.

  • Awesome wine. Great with Lamb and cabbage casserole. Played nicely on the far from the Lamb and the acidity on the cabbage and sauce.
