  2016 Leyda Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Las Brisas was perfumed and savoury, but lacked some depth of fruit, balance, and structure. The Chilean Pinot Noir was clear and medium ruby in colour with a light amber rim. The nose was developing and intriguing with mushroom, smoke, mint and a touch of game, followed by receding fruit flavours of ripe red cherries and strawberries. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-light bodied, with medium-high level of acidity. The dangerously low level of tannin and spicy alcoholic heat made the wine a bit unbalanced. Flavours of savoury soy sauce, liqourice, earth and spices were present in a medium finish.
  It felt like an aged rosé that lost its fruity appeal, complicated by an elevated alcoholic spiciness. The recommended drinking window until 2023 on the catalogue was too generous. My general impression of the Leyda Valley was better than what this bottle demonstrated. Purchased at CAD 19.95, I felt that they were Pinot Noir wines with better balance out there.

  Smoked meat, tea leaves, and light brick aromas.
  Fresh, zippy acidity and savory plum jam on the palate. A good value. Great appetizer wine for Christmas.
