  • Drank over two days. The nose is a bit restrained, but some swirling reveals ripe pineapple scents with a touch of vanilla and something like parsley. The palate is super bone-dry and tart. Almost like pulling a mineral rich stone from a mountainside, showering it with juice from a green lemon, and sucking on it. Quite saline though, with a relatively smooth flow. Comparing it to the GG, it seems more intense and penetrating than the IM Breumel, but less complex and lacking some of the floral qualities of the latter. I expect this wine will develop further with more bottle age. I plan to lay my remaining bottles for at least a handful of years and hope for better balance and more complexity.

  • Dense, organically farmed dry Pfalz Riesling, sourced from the ‘Haardter Bürgergarten’ single vineyard (yellow sandstone soils interspersed with layers of loess and clay). Beautiful light golden-yellow in color and an enticing and complex nose of peach, white blossom, lemon zest and a hint of paprika. The perfectly balanced palate is marked by rich and concentrated stone and citrus fruit and is supported by a fresh and herbaceous acidity. Expressive mineral finish. Already highly enjoyable now, yet it has the structure to age beautifully.

  • Canberra International Riesling Challenge (Albert Hall, Canberra): The appearance is clear and pale lemon in colour. Tears are visible.

The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium(+) intensity and show floral notes (blossom). The wine appears youthful.

On the palate, the wine is dry (~6g/L RS) with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium(-) body. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of green fruit (green apple) and stone fruit (subtle peach). The finish has a long length, with an MLF character (butter) lingering on the finish.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have an amazing balance with the alcohol and the acidity. In its current state the wine shows primary and secondary characteristics. The wine is very enjoyable and has a finish with amazing length.

The wine drinks well now, but has potential for further ageing. The fruit intensity is great and the acid structure should support the wine as tertiary characters develop.
