  • Second of 3 ($29.99), with the first given away, from online wine clearinghouse #1 about 3 years ago. After air, moderate notes on the nose and palate of red currants, cranberries, strawberries, red plums and a lighter note of tart black berries, rust, dark florals, orange peel, sweet spice, underbrush and hints of forest floor, vanilla and oak. The lightest garnet, almost auburn, off the pour, and, like many other barolos, BdMs and CdPs, darkening to medium garnet with air, Medium bodied, medium to thick legs. Rousing acidity giving the wine wonderful lift and leanness, medium+ tannins no heat. VG+ intensity, persistence and complexity. Served to Barry and Thomas with my chicken-veggie red sauce pasta, this wine impressed. Opened and aired for 3+ hours before consumption, a tiny sip on opening revealed a tight, mostly tart drink dominated by acidity, but this integrated and gained depth with air. There’s enough balance here to enjoy this on its own or with some light charcuterie, yet the strong spine makes it a cut above with a red sauce pasta dish, as I’m sure it would be with pizza or red meat as well. Consistent notes over the hour+ we consumed it. While I’ve mostly stayed away from my ‘15 and ‘16 Italians (French and Napa, too) while loving the ‘12s and getting into the ‘13s, for this bottle at least, with air, this is in its drinking window, albeit the early part, and while this won’t rival faves like Vajra, Sandrone or Scavino (let alone more aspirational pours like Mascarello, Voerzio, Conterno, etc.) in durability there’s plenty here so that this should shine for at least another 5 years, IMO, and for at least some of the bottlings in my collection from the above producers from ‘15 and ‘16, think they may be among the wines of my life. Superior lift and energy made this a narrow winner over the ‘13 Cortenesi BdM served subsequently, even if neither held a candle to the last glass of the ‘08 Guado, served just before. Exceeded expectations indeed. 92-93+

  • A WTSO special. The question is... do you buy an affordable Barolo from a lesser known producer or a nebbiolo d'alba from a great producer? I like the Barolo route.

    Color. Dark red.

    Nose. Cherries, vanilla, strawberry.

Palate. Cranberry, strawberry, coffee. Rich tannins and really good acidity. This wine is yummy!

  • A very pleasing barolo, but not extraordinary. No detailed notes since I was on the road.

  • This wine is tight and very dry…with air it gets a bit better,,,
Flavor is orange rind, spice, red fruits all wrapped in a dusty dry finish..

  • Very light color, thin at first blush but plenty of fruit acids. I probably should have let this cellar longer, because it did evolve over a couple of days after opening (Coravined). But I couldn't resist. Very food-friendly with pasta, chicken, good price point.
