Young for sure but still quite approachable lots of dark red cherry, some dried herbs and licorice on the nose, more pronounced licorice on the palate but there lots of acidity and pure fruit too, drying gripping finish which is to be expected from such a young Barolo

Morra Restaurant, Matteo Morra, Cherasco.

The Barolo Boys: Ravera Cru Special (Zoom!): Modernist style and the newest producer in Ravera – this 2015 is Scavino's first vintage of Ravera. There is some new oak via barrique although the wine then goes into botti – the producer is gradually shifting more production to the latter. Scavino's plot is on the top of the hill, east-facing, where the soil has less clay and the wines are slightly lighter as a result.
Quite soft on the nose, with really ripe red fruit, but there’s plenty of bitter, coffee-esque darkness on the palate after an initial hint of sweetness, and it fans out towards the Marmitey finish. More floral after a couple of hours of air. There’s plenty of tannin but it’s nicely structured and there’s a sense of lift. Plenty of ripe black cherry fruit. Decent balance - oak is well-integrated - but feels a tad clunky compared to the other wines even if it's objectively tasty and quite complex.

Beautiful effort, the first vintage from this prestigious vineyard. Displays a medium red cherry tinted color that is just a shade lighter than expected but it doesn't disappoint on the nose. Wonderful notes of cedar and roses are present, with strong depth of secondary characteristics including clove and a hint of cinnamon. The wine shows tremendous depth - perhaps because it's relatively young, but I can see this evolving very nicely in, say, five years, meriting a higher score. Firm, chewy tannin, but always framed by plush red fruits with just a small flourish of savory elements on the finish to keep it very interesting. Not one to keep beyond 10yrs I think, but very enjoyable now until then. Drank over three nights with consistent notes.
