Closed at opening. Aired an hour in a decanter. Tertiary aromas, medicinal, ripe dark fruits, plum, fennel, anise, licorice, coffee, tobacco, tar, followed by autumn leaves and forest floor. Volatile, smooth, elegant and soft in the mouth, yet an underlying impressive energy with layers on layers of flavours. It last for ever on the palate. Top bottle, tasted over three hours. Matched with reindeer fillet with port wine sauce, butter fried parsley, fennel, carrots and sprouts leaves.

A great Italian evening in Belgium: Special and mature bouquet with chocolate, sweet soy and celery. On the palate autumn impressions, juicy red berries, good acidity and slightly drying tannin. Although in the bouquet quite tertiary, on the palate the wine was still a great pleasure.

Some strange aromatics, not my favorite.

It smells like plum, prune, lead pencil and cherry. The wine looks brick colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle.

Italian night @ Stappato (Enoteca Stappato, Leuven (Belgium)): This is an odd-ball... Very powerful, very tertiairy, lots of evolution in the nose, but still very appealing. Lavas, asphalt, scorched wood, balsam. Unique wine.
