  • I wonder about bottle variation on this one. My last couple of notes were so-so, and there's a lot of tasters that express disappointment. I was expecting the same, and then this bottle came along.

Perfumed aromatics. On the palate, rich well beyond my expectations. Medium bodied, a hint of green / stems, but lush in mouthfeel. This bottle, unlike my previous ones, is a killer QPR. That said, it seems like it's been a bit of a crapshoot with this bottling. This bottle - 89 to 90 points.

  • Disappointing is the word.

Color: Deep ruby to pink rim. No browning at all.
Nose: Tea, spice, some cherries and earth
Palate: Thin and lean. Good flavors that echo the nose but just too much acidity and a short, astringent finish.

Drinking wine is supposed to give pleasure but this one just doesn't deliver.

  • Drank with head cold. Liked it, but could only evaluate mouth feel, which seemed relatively rich and balance. Given my prior outings with this, and the notes of others, this was an interesting example of how badly a head cold can screw with a person's senses.

  • Frankly, more than a tad disappointing. The color of cranberry juice with a soil driven tea/spice nose. Very astringent, offering little in the way of fruit, well past presumably what was optimum drinking time. Some spice and mineral, some limited sense of ground, but all in all disappointing.

  • I don't have a ton of experience with Burgundy, so take this with a grain of salt:

It seems a bit weird. Not unpleasant, but given my limited experience somewhat uncharacteristic. Earthy, funky, stemmy on the nose. Initially shows some of the same character as the 2004 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges Pruliers, notorious for "green meanies". This shows some of the same, both on nose and palate, albeit in a very dialed down way compared to my last outing with Gouges.

Whatever - it's a decent enough quaffing pinot, trending toward what I'd consider to be a luncheon wine. At $17, it's acceptable though not a lot better. Perhaps it will evolve on the shelf over the coming hours and days.
