nice dark color with slight amber edges. Pretty fragrant nose of red cherries, orange peel, and anise. Palate shows a wonderful array of worn leather, sour cherries, dark strawberries and worn leather. Beautifully expressive mid-palate. Perfect balance and refined tannins. THIS is exactly what one wants when they open a 14 year old Barolo. There is some elegance and distinction separating this from a a 'Normale'. Long and true, this is in a wonderful place and expect it to stay there if perfectly stored, like this was.

Medium bricking. Nose of raisins, pout pourri, cherries. Medium high acidity, anise, beautiful cherries, dried violets, fig, and tarry notes with some spice. Complex and layered, shows maturity with austere tannins and oaky notes on the medium+ ending. In a very good spot.

Almost no nose upon opening and threw this in the decanter for 3 hours before climbing in. Notes of meat, mushroom, tar, forest floor started to come out. Nose was not pronounced however--really had to dig to pull out the aromas. Tannins nicely integrated with a med-bodied smooth finish. Pleasing enough, but underwhelming to me at $80 USD.

In the nose, the wine has aromas of oak, iron and even some smoke. On the palate the wine is full bodied, highly tannic, good acidity. Flavours of sour cherries, ripe lingonberries, dark chocolate and some herbs. The wine is earthy and fleshy, with quite pronounced oak and somewhat noticeable alcohol. The finish is medium long, quite voluminous, oaky and somewhat black-peppery. The wine definitely gets better as it opens up in the glass, showing brighter fruit and better balance.
This wine, at least for me, from a magnum feels still too young. The style isn't either my favourite for Nebbiolo, with strong oak influence and a stronger lean towards power and weight rather than elegance. This one is most likely in a very enjoyable state from a regular bottle, but the magnum needs more time.

Nose of anise, tar, cherries, dried herbs, darker red berries. Palate is still somewhat youthful, though the oak is integrated and tannins starting to mellow. Lacks a little bit of depth to the fruit that concerns me for longevity, but it held up okay over two days.
Nice enough, but I had expected a bit more based on recent notes.

Tasted through coravin, from a magnum bottle.
