Rome lives! The tannins in this wine march and do battle with the same power and intensity as the legionaries advancing on the last Dacian holdouts; scutum presented, gladius stabbing and hacking, no quarter given. These tannins are the shield wall.
I am afraid that I struggled with this wine, less because of the tannins advancing on me with malice a forethought, than because I found the wine rather lacking in charm. The flavours and aromas are marred by a distracting black tea and burnt bones character that the fruit never really manages to balance. No wonder the Dacians fought to the last.
I see other reviewers liked this and it does have length and intensity, but so does halitosis and I don't like that much either.

A very good Chianti that could use at least another 5 years (or 10) in the bottle if you have the facilities. The nose is very pretty and pure—cherry and plum. There is also a not quite identifiable earthiness—maybe soil, maybe coffee beans.
As you might expect, the acid is high and the tannins are powerful, lending the palate a certain dirtiness under the buoyancy of the fruit.

Deep garnet in color with dark brick red edges. Nose of cherry and sweet tobacco...picked up "heat" on the nose as well (maybe the 14% alcohol showing thru or something else). On the palate, dark tangy cherry with sweet earth, warm spice and anise. This tasting note was taken on night two (wine was simply too closed after 1.5 hours in the glass to even rate on night one). Tannins are felt prominently on the gums. Finish is medium length. In the end, this is just way too young...its disjoined and air is not sufficient to bring it around....5-10 years away from being approachable. I expect my rating will improve at that time.

Pairing this with orzo recipe as per the legendary Yotam ottolenghi. Short 30 minutes decant. Deep purple Color, moving to ruby soon. Cedar on the nose, dried blue berries, tea, mushroom, forest floor, white pepper, smoky wood, salinity. Med acidity, full body, high alcohol, Med flavor intensity, Med tannins, Med finish. Quite peppery note, mushroom, earthiness, chewy tannins, very enjoyable! Decent price quality as well

No detailed note, but an outstanding young bottle with balance and fruit to last. Worth drinking now but clearly has ability to improve with age.
