The Rotating Dinners, I.6: Napa (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. I've always loved these wines. Simply put, they're brilliant. This is the colour of motor oil. For a wine that's less than twenty years old, the colour ought to be concerning, but these wines have always been super dark. This reminds me of an old TBA (as in 50 years old). There's plenty of sugar, acidity, and fruit extract here. It's clearly identifiable as riesling, too. A fascinating and delicious wine with its old Sauternsy feel: orange peel, brown spice, burnt caramel, but just lighter on its feet.

Salil does Chicago; 4/16/2015-4/19/2015 (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. Served blind. Dark brown colour, with some coffee and toffee notes. The palate is very rich and sweet, with a bit of spiciness. The racy acidity on the finish had me thinking riesling but I hedged and ended up saying Alsatian varietal. Also guessing new world, since this had the colour of an old TBA but none of that complexity. To be honest, this was perhaps a bit one-dimensional, but it was a very fun way to cap off the evening.

Still lush and full bodied. Quite sweet and would have liked a little more acidity to it but overall a nice wine. Went quite well with dessert. Sweet Orchard fruit dominated.

dark amber color. fully mature but will probably stay there for the next 100 years. a bit sweet but still very enjoyable. the apricot taste and aroma of old has been replaced by something else that i can't identify.

Wineflock - Wow wines (Nanda's): Full caramel color. Full carmel nose with hints of orange peel. Nice round backed apple sweetness on the palate. Surprisingly good! 93-94 pts.
