Decanted 2 hrs. ahead. Deep garnet color with a bit of bricking at the edge. Nice nose of cedar, earth, mushrooms, plums, graphite. Mature on the palate, with cedar and pleasant mold flavors in a balanced package with still firm acidity. If a young wine is zippy and tart, this wine is reaching middle age in a nice way, not soft but rather softened. Finishes well with wood and benevolent mold notes over light tannins. This wine drinks more like a cab than a merlot but I don't see that as a problem. It's in a good phase right now, still alluring but not senescent by any means.

Thursday Night 5 for $5 (The Grapevine - Pocatello, ID): Deep purple-red color. Aged aromas of plum, blackberry, oak, a little boozy. Medium heavy body, smooth acid and high but soft tannins. Flavorful licorice, plum and oak. Very long finish, great balance and highly complex if a little hot.
