  • Prior bottle was 11 months ago and this wine continues to show well, but does need some time open to show its best. When first opened it felt lighter, less complex and I was overall, slightly surprised. However, by 4+ hours in, nearly fully recaptured my earlier impressions.

Red cherry, some black cherry (as it opens) along with spices, earth and mineral notes, but not quite as aromatic as previously. Medium bodied (after it's been open for awhile) with rounded red cherry again upfront, deepening to black cherry through the middle. Black and red cherry through the middle with some red raspberry highlights. Backside has retained good acidity and tannic structure to go along with light spices, earth and minerals on the finish.

Given where the structural qualities (particularly tannins), this wine still has room for positive evolution. I don't see it gaining additional complexity, but it could/should gain additional balance and integration. Fruit should continue to hold up and drink by end of 2025 still feels reasonable.

  • Medium to light bodied wine, raspbery/cherry notes, nice fresh feel in the mouth good balance with acidity.
These good examples of Etna Rosso are becoming more available and make a very pleasant addition to food pairings, VFM.

  • 90+ Quintessentially Italian. At a lovely stage but could last another 5y, where it will likely reach 93+. Balance elevates this to an excellent wine.

N: Tart raspberry, snapped ripe stems, bright cherry, backbone of crushed hillside bedrock, a bit meaty. Wild heather, dried blueberry. Perfumed.

P: Bright, piecing attack of English cherry, blackberry and high toned old leather, grainy texture. More heather and dried leaves high tones. Med+ sandpaper tannins and acid. Structure for days, but harmonious.

F: dry as a bone, cooked plum.

  • What great value and what a great surprise, since I didn't quite understand the praise the '14 got. This vine has both volume and focus. The earthy tannins are well in balance with the fruit and acid, creating something very substantial in the best sense of the word. Solid, yet lively!

Edit: A sip the next day says perhaps I should take it down one notch.

  • Really nice dark cherry and dusty earth palate with a strong undertone of woodsy spice. Relatively big but still graceful.
