13% alcohol. CS 45%, M 44%, CF 8%, PV 3% in the vineyard according to JMQ's book of 2011, but I am unsure about the actual mix in this vintage; purely from tasting, I would say that CS is more dominant. Decanted an hour ahead. Dark but not opaque colour with limited fading at the rim. Lively nose with good fruit (blackcurrant plus a tiny red fruited component) and no direct oak influence; if you look hard you will find some bell pepper, but it does not deter from the enjoyment, quite the contrary. Moderate complexity but satisfying harmony. The mouth is definitely firm although the tannins are largely resolved; very fresh in a way that Médoc rarely is, helped in this regard by menthol in the finish. A straight-laced Médoc of the old school and true to the St Estèphe style, I feel. I like it, but don't go there expecting lushness...
PS: looking back, I see that my previous bottle tasted in 2017 was badly defective. Good to see that it was a once off, most probably a cork malfunction.

Medium-bodied, earthy, dusty, and with a nice mix of red and black fruits, the wine is soft, round, spicy and in its core, you find cedar, cigar box, spice, and chewy currants. No decanting is needed, just pop and pour here.

Opened and let breath in the bottle for 10 hours. Used the vinerator to pour and it came out ready to go in the glass. Enjoyed with Caesar salad steak and mushrooms, creamed spinach. Fine effort that was thoroughly enjoyed!

(5/27/21) From a 750ml bottle purchased on the secondary market, with a fill that was well into the neck. Not decanted.
Showing very little evolution in appearance, this wine presented a simple, slightly muted, rather generic aged bouquet and a flatish, rustic palate that could be best described as older wine flavored. It did have very good acidity, though, and lots of grippy tannins, so there’s that.
Most cru bourgeois wouldn’t have made it this far and certainly not in this kind of youthful shape, but there was nothing inspiring about this bottle. It was just sort of there. In retrospect, there was a kind of cardboard flavor to it, so my guess it that this was lightly corked. Maybe other bottles are better, but I wouldn’t bet the farm—or another 40 bucks—on it. 13% abv. (flawed; no score)
