  • Well, this wine is not headed in the right direction in my opinion.
Relative to my last bottle, the fruit is drying up and the wine is losing length and complexity. Still a pleasant dinner wine but not more than that.
I will drink my remaining bottle soon.

  • My previous bottle was a little flat. This one is spot on! This is savory, authentic mature sangiovese that has absorbed its oak and developed that balsamic, mushroomy character that I so love. The tannins are still present, but they are fine and seem to meld seamlessly with the wine's limestone soil signature.

  • This wine is aging very gracefully.
Hardly any change in hue. In fact, I would recommend decanting it at least one hour prior to dinner.
prior to decanting, oak was a little too prominent on nose and tannins still a little grippy. air contact helped both. I'm still convinced that this type of wine would benefit from cask aging rather than barrel aging. They simply don't need the oak component. It doesn't bring anything to the table...
Nice, ripe fruit, significant tannin still but of good quality. grape tannins would have been sufficient, no oak tannins needed.
This wine is likely to improve to improve over the next 5+ years. Impressive wine despite the oak.
24 hours after decanting, this wine was showing extremely well. spicy, cedary character comes out nicely, Tannins have finally softened, but finish is shorter. Overall, this shows there is still life left in this wine.

  • The cork was remarkably firm and was wetted only 1/2 cm. Sweet and sour Chianti aromas in addition to some tobacco and leather. Fresh, fruity and still young. Soft and smooth for a Sangiovese. Could easilly last another ten / twenty years (with this cork).

(Badia a Coltibuono Sangioveto di Toscana) Great tart plum nose; juicy, tart red fruit and plum palate with depth and good acidity; long finish
