100% sangiovese, first made in 1980. relative to the lot, this is opting for opulence. red liquorice, almost some herb extract on the nose. rich, but not stewed fruits. 2003 was an extremely warm summer. cinnamon and waxy red fruit on the nose. emmanuela "organic speaks to the authenticity of the place." this wine seems so modern next to the CC estate. experimented with french, slovenian, and now austrian wood. Very youthful palate. med ++ acid. Med+ tannin, but softening just a touch from a couple years in bottle.
estate was purchased by Emmanuela Stucchi's Great Great Grandfather in 1846 after Napoleon kicked the monks out. "colti" - culture, agriculture. "buono" - good

Sensory Evaluation excursion: Badia a Coltibuono (Gaiole in Chianti): 100% Sangiovese. Much denser and darker than the CC and CCR. Fairly intense aromas and flavours, medium acidity, smooth tannins, rich, long, complex.

Decanter Great Italian Fine Wine Encounter (Landmark Hotel, London): Sweet cherry nose. Structured and tight but lacking fruit.
