Community Tasting Notes (10)

  • splash decanted. Like the 2018 I am getting a slightly desiccated fruit quality on the nose, plums, blackberries in support along with a touch of earth and leather, slightly green underpin. On the palate it's fairly hefty and dense without having massive grippy tannins; concentrated and broad. Fruit is as per the nose with a little alcohol warmth in support. bit of a woof on this tasting

  • Reductive rubbery backed by plummy, earth, a little struck match, blackberry and slightly funky notes in support. Dense, juicy, dark hued fruits are savoury, yeast extract underpin, tannins are drying but softly textured persist, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.

  • Show wines decision making (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Earth, slight clay, blackberry, savoury spice, very slight pepper and meaty underpin. Juicy, savoury, black hued fruits, talc textured persistent tannins. Slight alcohol warmth intrudes slightly on the finish. Okay

  • Coravin'd then opened another bottle. Looks like there is some vintage variation as this is showing a lot more fruit (black cherries and plums) earth, liquorice and a little peppery spice on the nose. in the mouth it's softly juicy, more fleshy than fresh, the fruit quite dense and this is reinforced by the chewy, persistent tannins. Still very young.

  • From Coravin. 6 months passes and this has, if anything, gotten more closed and, well, downright taciturn. Low intensity aromas show a bit of reductive rubber and a whisper of cherry. With repeated and aggressive agitation it does offer up a little plum, earth and leather but exceedingly begrudgingly. The palate features some pleasing tannic grip but is, from a flavour perspective, dark, inky, murky and opaque, if you can imagine such a thing. Time, and lots of it, may help.
