  • Begins very reductive, which stays with this wine over the course of the first night. Underneath, there is solid red fruit and a good measure of tannin and acidity. The palate is still very primary, shows a bit of sous bois, cinnamon and some dry tea notes. I really like the underlying purity here. It's "very 2005" in its purity and silkiness.

No degradation overnight, and the sulfur notes are gone. The palate purity is still evident. There is an impression of leanness here, and I think it is due more to the fact that this is still young and needs time to fill out and soften, rather than any decline of fruit. Really very nice Bourgogne, and I think will be even more impressive in 2-3 years.

  • A terrific bourgogne in smashing form. Ripe, dense, round, spilling out of the glass like a brilliant wardrobe malfunction. Rich pinot fruit with just a hint of sous bois creeping in. Not complex or wound, just really solid for the appellation. The beauty of '05 revealed, even in its theoretically lowest expression-it's just got this perfect...seamless quality. Satisfying in all senses.

  • The fruit here, while not being especially striking, is still pretty good, showing red fruit from cranberry to raspberry. The acidity is vibrant and keeps the wine fresh; the tannin is smooth and somewhat dry in the finish, giving an impression that this wine is still on the young side, while the mouthfeel is no longer plush or thick as a young wine. I think another two or three years will allow the tannin to fully integrate and the wine will hopefully take on a better, softer texture. This is a good Bourgogne, drinking well, but doesn't aspire for greatness. Finally, if your wife can't sleep and is out of Ambien, and you open a Burgundy at midnight, this is a very good choice. Hypothetically, of course.

  • Very good showing on the first night, with juicy red fruits, strawberry, red cherry, atop a lively wave of acidity. Deb and Maya smell bacon. Really delicious up front, with good drive through the back, made possible by the vibrant acidity. While still fruity on the second night, it's not as forward, with more tannin showing and more of a meaty, earthy core emerging. Quite nice. If this is how the Bourgogne is showing after 5 years, I'm looking forward to checking in on the 1ers in another few years.

  • Quite nice, held up very well over two days. Good balance between fruit and acidity, should continue to improve.

(LIGNIER-MICHELOT Bourgogne) 2005 Burgundy Dear Friends, Our parcel of 2005 Lignier-Michelot has docked and it is one of major league caliber. All of the wines below are VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and we only have one shipment. The Bourgogne is particularly exciting and all of the wines are even better from bottle than they were from barrel. This lot is directly from the cellars at Lignier-Michelot with perfect provenance: 2005 Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne (Bons Betons) (BH85-88) EXTREMELY LIMITED This wine is outstanding for what it is - period. It reaches way beyond its calling and would compete with 2005s at twice the price: 2005 Lignier-Michelot Chambolle-Musigny Vielles Vignes (BH89-91) STRICT LIMIT 3/person Another outstanding effort and one that reaches way beyond it's pedigree. From some of Chambolle's most desirable old vines: 2005 Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis "Faconnieres" (BH92) EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg6001 Burg6002 Burg6003

(Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne) Medium-plus colour with plenty of purple. Very understated nose - very little to say for the first glass, but glass two shows black cherry and a lovely red berry note as it drains. The palate is quite full, nicely textured and has good acidity that rolls into the finish. There’s a nice little burst in the mid-palate before you feel the slight astringence of the tannin. Lots of character here and enjoyed from the start.
