  • Doesn’t matter this is from Walla Walla or Rhône this is a beast of a Syrah.

Sight: as inky purple/black as it gets!

Nose: this is ludicrously concentrated black fruit then you get punched with bacon fat and smoked meat. The wine has a slight saline hint and also has plenty of spice to back up its Syrah namesake. I love the earthy funk you get off the wine it’s perfectly balanced and not so much that it would put people off it’s more on the nose than the palate but it does lessen with a long decant.

Palate: A powerhouse of a Syrah my gosh…. I have drank many Norther Rhône’s as well as Australian Syrah’s at very high price points but the ripeness/concentration in this thing is blowing my mind! This is like condensing 30 pounds of blackberries into one glass but besides the full bodied mouth filling attributes of the wine it being at 14.7abv it’s really remarkably drinkable. I get plenty of smoked meat and again very distinct saline quality in the mid palate following with that earthy funk finish.

Overall: this wine took me by surprise and paired marvelously with the steaks that we had that night. I just don’t think I have ever had that level of concentration in a wine and the fact that it was 14.7% but remained so soft plush and drinkable on the pallet put this very high on my list a must try!

  • Opened in the bottle for 3-4 hours. Really nice stuff with very little funk that typically turns me off to Walla Walla/Rocks Rhone. Texturally dense with tons of silky dark fruit, smoke, dark chocolate and salinity. No sharp edges and drinking shockingly well with ten years life to go. I really was not planning to like this so much.
