Community Tasting Notes (10) Avg Score: 89 points

  • Drank side by side: 2015 Peter Michael Sauvignon Blanc L'Apres-Midi and 2018 Alban Vineyards Viognier: (blind, and reviews of either were not seen)

    2018 Alban Vineyards Viognier
    87 pts
Medium intensity hues of yellow-green, good clarity,
Medium + intensity aromas of Passionfruit, starfruit, watermelon rinD, and pineapple, with
    Medium acidity,
    Medium + / high alcohol
    Light bodied

Pleasant, would recommend, but wouldn't rebuy for $40 .

  • A bit heavy and unctuous with tropical fruit dominating. Alcohol not front and center but noticable.

  • Very enjoyable, not quite as dry as most Viogniers I drink, a little on the buttery smooth side. Oily I think someone noted. But it has been well made with some pineapple, apricot and floral notes.

  • To start, I don't downgrade my score based on style if the vintner did a great job of doing what they set up to do...I ask myself what would lovers of this varietal say? Not everyone is going to like this style, but Alban vinified this wine in a manner that the stone fruit and pineapple are the super stars and it is incredibly elegant with a floral touch.
Mouth-filling, but not robust, no more than medium bodied. Spicy or strong tasting food might overwhelm it
Alban brought out the best Viognier characteristics, but as I said some may not appreciate the style, but please do appreciate the quality.
    Solid 92. Drink now.

  • Transparent light-yellow color. Nose of eucalyptus, honey, green herbs, and a floral perfume element; my wife described it as similar to a Jo Malone candle. Medium bodied with medium low acid and a thick, oily mouthfeel. Flavors of mint, gravel, green herbs and eucalyptus, with an unpleasant goopy medicinal finish.
