  • One of the most noticeable vintage variations in a long time. Described the 2016 as a “WOW wine” and one of our favorites of the year. With the 2017 much softer and nuanced dare I say a bit dull in comparison. Here, deep ruby/purple in the glass pale edge variation, nose is moderately aromatic, dark fruits, palate is dry, black plum, dark cherry, currant, bit of anise, green herbs come through, note of leather and earth, acidity is high, tannins bit gripping, finish is long. Nothing wrong here just very different from the previous vintage.

  • Impenetrable purple color except at the very rim. Pungent nose of rubber, smoke, purple fruits, and old oak. Dry black plum covers the tongue and then layers its tannin structure across it, with black licorice, tar, and dried bay leaf. Chewy finish with rustic tannins, dark black cherry, leather belt, and a long pucker-dry finish. This wine needed some more time to unwind. Given I had but one bottle, I wish I could have kept my hands off it for a couple years.

  • Deep garnet color, lovely deep crushed fruit nose, hints of dried herbs and anise; not sure if it’s the vines coming of age, or the vintage character, but there is a little less of the distinctive marionberry (as I’ve described it in earlier vintages), and more savory dried herb character to the somewhat brooding deep red fruit, full bodied, quite grippy, with some fairly strong tannic structure, a wine to cellar at least medium term. Maybe LM's best Mondeuse so far?
