2017 vintage. @ Mister A’s Restaurant, San Diego-Les Caves de St. Charles CDP dinner. Initially, an absolute ballbuster. Massive tannins with a modicum of velveteen fruit at the end of a long tunnel. After two hours? Surprise! Change partners and the nearsome, fearsome tanninfest coalesced into the velveteen fruitfest. Remarkable concentration, tho, from start to finish over the course of the dinner. Best newer-vintage CDP, out of roughly 200, that I’ve had in the last two years. Just a remarkable chameleon. Supposedly 50/50 Grenache/Syrah. Worth the hunt. 11.16.23.

About an hour decant. Everyone loved this and I think it has a really good qpr. Seemed to fade after about 2.5 hours so I don't know if it will get any better with more age.

With a dark hue, the wine opens with smoke, espresso, licorice, spice, incense and dark, red fruits. There is a nice depth of flavor here as the wine fills your palate with all of its dark, ripe, rich fruits. But there is a modern leaning here. So, some are going to like it more than others. With all of its power and discernible oak influence, this is going to demand at least 5 years in the cellar, or more for everything to come together and fully integrate. The wine was made from 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah.

I would definitely have called this new world if tasted blind. In a good spot and probably not much upside from here.
