Earthy, tart, dark cherries. Well integrated tannins. Did not notice the oak as much as others. In a good place now or could last several more years. Nice CdP

This wine was extremely oaky soon after release, but now the oak has integrated quite a bit with the wealth of fruit. I am still not a fan of new oak in CDPs though, as the wood doesn't seem to mesh as seamlessly with grenache-heavy wines as it does with cab or syrah-based wines. This wine had some nice Christmas spice notes which gave me the idea of pairing it after the meal with some of our homemade fruitcake (based on Emily Dickinson's "Black Cake" recipe, which is worth checking out online), and this pairing really worked, even given the booziness of the cake (the cake gets wrapped in a cognac soaked cheesecloth and aged for several weeks or even a few months with fresh brandy applied to the cloth every week or so to keep it moist and preserved.) Interestingly, I prefer this producer's "entry level" CDP (Deux Soeurs cuvee) a bit more than the more "prestige cuvees" like this one. I will open our remaining bottle in 2025, and hope for even more new oak integration by then.

From a good vintage with a long picking season known for its acid and elegance. Clear, deep ruby with significant sediment.
Nose is lovely - elegant, complex and dusty. Wood stands out. Tart red and black cherry, cinnamon and worn cedar. Quite stunning.
Palate is balanced and elegant. Persistent acid. Just a touch hot.
Flavours are of intense oak, black cherry, earth, garrigue and espresso.
In a good spot but probably better in a few years.
