  • Dans la catégorie « faut aimer cela », c’est la première fois que je le déguste. Côté animal assez marqué au nez, la bouche offre une bonne acidité. L’air devrait lui faire du bien. Pour le moment je trouve cela correct sans plus.

  • Tasted from a half bottle, this is drinking well. A little brett on the nose, but mainly pepper and cherries, before a crisp, restrained mouthful of red cherries and redcurrants, with a slightly peppery finish. Not a great wine, but a good example of what others could have done in 2018 with a little more care and restraint. There is no trace of heat, no overripe fruit - I would never have guessed it was a 2018. My only Breton 2018, I shall definitely look for more.

  • Very Brett / barnyardy on the nose at first - it mellows out with some air. Dark red fruits on the palate, some menthol, little bit of black fruit. Moderate tannins, moderate acidity.

It’s a bit early to drink this now, and a bit barnyard at the moment until it’s aired out, but think this will be really nice in 5-7 years.

  • Spicy, herbal nose, with star anise, berry and wild strawberry notes. Has some tobacco and smokey Islay malt flavors, white pepper, violets, licorice, wrapped around a core of bright black raspberry fruit. Complex and beguiling, this has a lot going on, and reminds me of a very solid Right Bank BDX. Not much in the way of tannins or structure, but this is drinking very well now.

  • Pnp and I think I am going to give my other bottles air time. A lot of barnyard dung smell is mixed in with the peony, raspberry, peat smells. The cow patch wafts off after about 10 minutes. This is very classic cab franc nose and actually a more developed palate than bouquet right now. Some good gravel but you have to look for it with the poblano, raspberry and crazy peony scents. Delightfully old school in its attack. Bears a good resemblance to the Nau Freres vV I had a while ago. This is definitely more accessible right now, but it is hard to say which is the better wine: I think the Nau will be better but you will have to wait a couple of decades (! Yes I mean it) to know for sure. This is however a great , fun, unapologetic Chinon - love it! This makes you love Cab franc as the real bad boy, not-for-beginners grape that it is in sure hands like these.
Score: 90-91. Relative to expectations: +? Maybe more …

Next day: very similar bouquet , still somewhat raw but full of cab franc exotic florals. Palate has deepened even more. Less chili pepper, more spice and minerals - just a bit more balanced. Giving it an extra point, sort of. Would love to see this evolve in a few years.
Score: 91. relative to expectations: + maybe more
