Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 85.3 points

  • Underwhelmed this time around. It could be that my taste in Burgundy has evolved along with my stock of higher quality Burgs. This was light, watery and not complex. Yet, it is still a pleasant drinking wine. It initially started in the 83 point range but it evolved well enough to warrant the bump. The nose is the best component here. Some red fruit, a touch of spice, an undercurrent of cola and bramble along with some secondary notes. The palate was flat and does not provide the burst I was looking for. All said, it is fine up to this point. A plain bistro wine. But it was touched by bitterness and out of whack acidity at the back end.

  • Somewhat simple -- strawberry, raspberry, and sweet red cherry. Some earthiness in the midpalate. Well balanced, but little tannin to suggest ageing will improve this (not that I would expect huge ageability from a village Bourgogne) Short finish.

  • Daniel Rion is a terrific example of an old fashioned boutique Burgundy producer. This medium-bodied Bourgogne shows well his straightforward palette, with well-balanced Pinot - darker, more structured, and less fruit forward than a lesser producer would do for a Bourgogne in such a lush year. Drinking at its peak now.

  • Almost an inky purple. Mild acidity. Lots of cherry, black cherry, raspberry and a slight bit of earthiness and spice that adds some nice body. This may be slightly high for this price point, but it is a nice Burgundy that pairs well with salmon and chicken
