  • It is really impossible to give a quantitative note to this wine. Hell, I bought it 20+ years ago, paid with my savings, and waited until now. The cork disintegrated, but the wine was perfect. Deep amber color with only hints of amber at the rim. Dark core. Amazingly fruity nose displaying classic grenache tones of prunes, warm earth and licorice. no signs of tertiary tones! Full bodied, almost sweet attack. Fans out on the mid palate to include tones of tobacco, an iron like tone, and fine freshness. Very, to extremely long aftertaste. How do you rate a wine like this? Drunk with a Haut Brion 1986 and a Hermitage la Chapelle 1996 (Jaboulet) - both perfect condition - and this wine almost stole the show. The rating reflects the emotional side as well as the rational one

  • Q4 2910 Wine Club - Aged Spaniards (The Apt): Wine #1: Opened and decanted for prob 4.5 hours before being rebottled. Very spicy, lots of red fruits, comes across as very young even with all of that time. This was a wine that continued to evolve through the evening and I thought never really hit the peak. Would love to see it again in like 20 years. Built to last. I enjoyed it though.
One of my favorites of the tasting. (5 pennies)

  • Drank twice in 3 days from 5L and secondly standard bottle. Very floral, lot of wood at first but opened up nicely after a decent decant.

  • This followed a '94 Unico. The color has a redder tone than the Unico, more like ripe strawberries. On the nose, the L'Ermita seemed more delicate and more floral but in a restrained way. Palate was mostly smooth and round with notes of red currants and plums. Not overly complex at this stage but delicious nonetheless.

  • 2016 Athens Wine Event (Paleo Reastaurant, Piraeus): Tasted Blind. We could not place it other than a feel that this was a modernist wine from a relatively warm climate. We erred on the US Syrah side.
Dark in color, dense. Still very young in a way and has quite a bit of evolution in the tank. The oak is well assimilated. Dark fruited, touch of earthy feel at times but lightest of touches to be honest. Round and supple tannin, good acidity and with an underlying rich core of fruit on the palate. Could have guessed cab sauv to be honest if it wasn't that we at least new these were only Rhone Grapes.. Pretty Solid 93-94

Interestingly checking a note we had on this wine in 2012 (Papies 93) we actually thought this was a super Tuscan.
