2016 Fratelli Barale Barolo is spiced and structured. The developing Nebbiolo is clear and pale ruby without any sediments. I uncorked the bottle, poured a small glass, and recorked it six hours before service. Notes of dry tea leaves, mint and coffee are followed by varietal characters of black cherry and tar.
The dry and full-bodied mouthfeel is accentuated by high levels of firm acidity and grippy tannin. There are flavours of earth, coffee and liquorice in a long, spicy finish. The 14% alcohol can be felt in the abundance of spices. The empty bottle weighs 751 grams. The young Barolo will surely evolve gracefully over the next decade.

On holiday. Drank over 24 hours. Appearance is clear, medium almost pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose initial rubber tyre reduction that blows off, revealing medium+ intensity aromas of red cherrie, licorice, sweet herbs and spices, toast oak bits. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), soft smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, licorice, sweet baking spices, toast oak, bit of smoky tar, touch of coffee mocha with more air. Long smoky tarry finish. Very good quality. Well-made semi-modern kind of style with classic nicely ripe fruit of the vintage. Can age some and also good drinking with some air over the next few years.

Charming mid-weight- nebbiolo. After a couple of hours it opened to reveal a very pretty nose with light floral notes, baking spices and dark cherry. Mid weight palate with cherry, cheerful red fruit and some complexity from more baking spices, peppery spicy finish, and fine balance. A yummy, youthful Nebbiolo that shows how food friendly and early drinking Barolo can be. A treat at this price point, and a great showing for a fine vintage. Initial dark cherry had me thinking more Beaujolais than Nebbiolo but after a short time more floral notes emerged.
