  • Can't believe I haven't popped one of these yet. Opened 2.5 hrs ago but not decanted. Mocha, berries, and black cherry on the nose.

The wine seemed hot just after pulling the cork, but the slow ox has really mellowed this out. While still fruit driven, the Intrigue isn't as vibrant or heavy as most of Donny's wines; i'd never guess this spent 22 months in 80% new oak, but the Merlot component really helps soften the wine and improve its approachability.

Great, on its own or with food, I'd suspect this is a nice record through 2025 or 26.

  • I would agree with what other have posted recently. about this "off the radar" winery, located in St Helena.
this is an estate grown blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and a generous splash of merlot, vinified and blended by Kirk Venge and proprietor Donnie in about 89% new oak. this is an early drinking cab blend, red fruited, rich, smooth. has a nice bouquet. hopefully, will develop nicely with more age.
    an easy drinker, crowd pleaser.

  • Another exceptional blend from Trespass! Decanted for about Two hours before enjoying. Wonderful balance of fruit, body and character.

  • Drank over two days, and this must be one of the least known exceptional and wildly impressive wines coming out of Napa. We got to taste with Donny in Napa over the summer, and this is the first bottle we’ve opened at home from that order. I think these wines are obviously modern Napa Cabernets but with a strong nod to old World Napa styling, The nose is mostly blue fruit with leather and earth, with a big palate (but definitely NOT over extracted) palate of blue and red fruit, graphite, earth, white pepper, and fine tannins. Held up really well over both days (spent the whole time in a decanter, did not pour back in the bottle). This is really impressive work, and actually a value for the price. I would happily buy more of this wine. An easy decade of vibrant life here.

  • Mini blind tasting: Vermeil Rosedale Block 2015, Trespass Intrigue 2017 and Memento Mori NV 2013. I listed the wines in the order that they placed. Very close between Vermeil and Trespass and a distant 3rd for Memento Mori.

Trespass' blend of Cab and Merlot was stunning. I still have quite a bit to drink, but this was drinking more like a 2015 than 2017. Dark, rich, well integrated signature notes from their St. Helena Vineyard, this has it all. I can't wait to finish the bottle!
