Wow. I never usually hold Andrew's wines long enough to see how they develop. And Roasted Slope Syrah (co-planted and fermented with 3-5% viognier) is one of my faves, full of fruit, big and bold, while it is young. But 5 years old it is changing, and it's good. Fruit has dropped off. No longer the fruit bomb of its youth, now more cab-like, nose of cassis, oak, vanilla, forest floor, complex. Full bodied, balanced, soft but firm tannins, long finish of fruit, tannins, spice, acidity, balanced, beautiful.

Opened in the bottle for a few hours. Medium to full bodied ripeness. Sweet red/blackberry, orange zest and Asian spice and white flower. Viognier definitely comes through. Texturally not the most polished wine but definitely enjoyable.
