  • Had refrained due to lackluster CT Notes. Allegedly at end of it's drinking window. Perhaps it has just come of age! We both enjoyed it, sweet dark fruit flavors, not at all harsh, acidic, tannic as described in earlier notes.

  • Still sour cherry and tart cranberry flavors however acidic but drank decently for half the bottle, then the little tart fruit faded and the acid became extremely pronounced. Best avoided or drink quickly with food.

  • Open for two hours, not decanted. Dark purple, still a little cloudy, bigger body. Not a lot on the nose, hint of perfume and fruit. Somewhat one dimensional on palate, very acidic, not so much fruit and nowhere near the complexity of five years ago. Maybe sat on this a year too long, drink them if you have them.

  • The diametric opposite of bottle one, this bottle was clean and free of contamination. The wine had a nice syrah nose of smoke and blueberrry. On the palate, little tannin, chocolate, sour cherry and blue fruits with a healthy dose of acidity. Beware though, this wine fell apart after a couple hours in the glass. Time to drink any remaining bottles.

  • A disappointment, really. Sour and thin on opening, tons of sediment a really not much else. This had some type of spoilage organism growing in it which makes me concerned for bottle two. After two hours, the fruit started to emerge a bit, although the food may also have hidden the sourness/lack of fruit (gourmet sausage with sweet relish and saurkraut). Two hours after opening, there is sour fruit to the nose, tannins are moderate, hints of rapberrry and not much else. Definitely a disappointment. I expected more from a single vineyard Murray syrah. I had some 2003 at the tasting room in Los Olivos in 2005 and they were sick wth volatile acidity. The tasting room employee tried to claim it was what Andy wanted, no doubt bullcrap. So while the baseline '01 Murray was pretty good, this sucked especially for the $. Drink up, this is not good.
