  • To be fair I’ve been chasing this wine for awhile and even in Piedmont in Nov it seemed like everywhere we ordered his wine it came back as they had sold out. So fast forward to a little restaurant in DC with a super Madeira list and an ok wine list and first bottle they bring is a brunello but we sort it out and lo and behold they have the wine! I’m a bit concerned expectations are too high but sometimes you just order and lo and behold I really liked this. It’s all dark cherry and balanced and drinks well young and more delicate styled Nebbiolo and I hate to say it but I see the hype (despite missing a visit with him in Nov which I’m now even more sorry did not work out). So hopefully next year it will be better and until then I’ll keep buying what I’m offered

  • Slow-oxed for 2 days prior to serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Pale ruby with garnet hues, interestingly there is almost 3 different hues including brick red, ruby and purplish garnet here in one liquid.

Fresh and youthful at this stage on nose with high toned purplish and red cherries, fresh herbs like sage and white peppers. With time in glass, more rose water and dried florals. Camphor notes too.

Bright and very fine boned acidity, minerality-driven. Clearly still at its youth now but this is quite promising. Silky tannins that can clearly benefit from more age but the amount and texture of the tannins taste great now with some good amount of slow-ox in bottle.

Reserved for long term observations. For now this looks a clear 94 points to my liking.
