  • Classic Bordeaux theme dinner at New Ubin CHIJMES. Drank in Sydonios Meridional. Cork duranded out nicely. Label quite faded. Ullage high.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of floral infused earth, pencil lead graphite, fine gravel, smoke. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), fully integrated tannins, still full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavorus of melded black cherries and blackcurrant, dark smoke, smoky gravelly earth, graphite, dark grilled herbs. Long finish.
Very very good quality. If tasted blind I definitely wouldn't have thought this was any 2nd wine.

  • From own cellar - casual wine dinner with Derekdarthtaster and friands. Fully résolved tannins. Everything interwoven here from nose to finish as a complete âged Bdx can show. Gréât structural évolution. Old library and fruit tones that have melded into à single expression. Derek got gravelly smoky notes of Graves on the nose. If you cross path with this wine buy it / open it. A peek into thé legendary expérience of iys bigger brother HB 89 at à fraction of thé price.

  • Full garnet, dense. Lovely nose, moist tobacco, a hint of terracotta amongst the gravel. Richer and riper than the 89 DDC alongside without being overdone. Long and nuanced. This shows a strong resemblance to a bottle of the 89 grand vin drunk recently, but without the extra layers of density and intensity. Just lovely. ****

  • I usually find this wine over the hill after 15 or so years but in the great '89 vintage and from magnum, it's still a joyous drink. Fully mature with layered flavors of smoked meats, charred wood, road tar and sweet tobacco. Surprisingly velvety and full in the mouth but falls off a bit on the finish. Really fun to try this and certainly time to drink up. At Penavic wine dinner atop 15 Hudson Yards.

  • Deep nose of black plum, black currant, eucalyptus, smoke, graphite. Palate has medium minus acidity, very expressive smoked meat, black fruits, and earth. Finish is not long exactly but otherwise this is a great bottle and should be at its peak for at least the next 5-10. Side note: level of acidity may turn off some (few?) folks who see that lacking here, but it's likely why RP loved this vintage of this wine so much.
