Last bottle a year ago. It’s improving. Quite plush for a St. Joseph. Remains rather primary and lactic, with some oak tones on the pop. Give this one more time.

Classic N. Rhone nose of cracked peppercorn and smoky purple fruit. Plenty of volume and concentration to the fruit with pretty smokey/stoney flavors and sandy tannins. Drinks well young on it fruit. The fruit is certainly ripe, but not as ripe and grapey as the 2018 was, I prefer this much more.

Still rather primary, but improving in bottle. Lots of olives, bacon, fat, wisps of smoke, blackberry concentrate. This will make great old bones, I believe.

Under $50 Syrah Smackdown (Halcon Triumphant Over Rhône!) (Columbia Heights): Deep purple and concentrated. Nose here is quite full of blue fruit and rocks. Palate follows with black and blue fruits, more rocks and a slight hint of alcohol on the finish at times. One other taster had written this down as well, and it was a bit surprising to me as I’d assumed this would be a more classic profile. Mine and the groups 4th place of 4.
Opened and decanted 2 hours before starting and tasted over 3 additional hours
Bottling is the KL Faury VV

Not seeing the La Gloriette reference but not seeing a closer match. Pnp with steak. Masculine for Saint Joseph, but quite nice. 14%
