Very little fruit could be discerned once the bottle was uncorked, but the wine opened up after 3+ hours to deliver some fruit flavors and a balanced finish.

With K and Peg at home at dinner. Medium-dark red. Light cherry nose, a bit reticent; even somewhat weird. On the palate, smooth entry, then somewhat harsh cherry flavors. Tannic finish. Short, medium body. Not much left in this one. 5-8-12-5: 80/100.

With K and Florence at home at dinner (coq au vin). Medium-dark ruby. Nose shows fruit but is a bit simple and not especially exciting. On the palate, the wine is fairly rich and earthy, but not as good as the '84, certainly. Cherries. Pretty good, but not in the upper echelon. 5-9-15-6: 85/100.
