Interesting wine. Except for the color (clear medium-light ruby with a colorless rim), this is not typical of California pinot noir. It smelled and tasted more like an aged cabernet, with dark brooding notes of earth, mineral, underbrush, and charcoal. Formidable tannins, with excellent structure and backbone. If it had any fruit at all, it would have been outstanding.
