  • Coravin'd in Chicago with some hearty fare.

Faded red/garnet, browning at the edge. Nose showing saddle leather, red fruits, earth. Elegant palate showing sweet cherry/raspberry, graphite, vanilla. Rustic...cedar, sherry and leather through the mid palate. Light bodied (by Rioja standards), medium finish

Classic, nicely aged Rioja. In a good spot now, likely to go to a tertiary phase soon. Still very enjoyable - drink up

  • Sweet red fruit. Mineral. Spice. Leather. Farmyard. Good acidity. Resolved. In a good spot. The lovely minerality, graphite, is a strong element to this and gives this more than a passing St Julien feel. Like a riper sweeter version. Also makes me think of Rouget (Pomerol).

My experience seems consistent with that of Vintomas from the note some 5 years back.

  • Eric's B-day: tasting rather young, and more modern than the 98 G.R. vanilla notes under the ripe black fruit. mid is chewy with a rustic touch (yum!) mid is more red fruit than the nose suggests, raspberry and cherry with savory notes and spices. finish ripe, with a hint of plum but clean and refreshing. With time - more savory on the nose. Good stuff.

  • Well-aged and mature bottle of rioja. The nose is a nice melange of red fruit and american oak. The palate is totally soft with fully resolved tannins. The core of sweet red and darker fruit is still there, as is some oak. Finishes with a little dill pickle and sherry notes.

  • Medium red with some brick edge. Nose with ripe and sweet red berries, some blackberries, animal notes with leather, blood and abatoir, some dung heap aromas, some mineral aromas with hints of graphite, some spice. Although signaling a much warmer origin, the nose has a some Burgundian character. The palate is medium bodied, ripe red berries with sweetness of fruit on the attack, rather good acidity, rather softened tannins, some rather mild spice, some alcohol feeling but nothing really worrying, finishes with cranberry character with a "good" sourness and a hint of bitterness. It is definitely traditional in character.
