  • Champers and Napa Cabs Blind - Fun Times! (Chateau Simms): I believe this wine received about a 2 hour Slo-O.

This was in a blind line up of some very prestigious 2019 Napa reds (and one 2016 thrown in), specifically:

    2019 MacDonald
2019 Kinsman Eades La Voleuse Du Chagrin
2019 Kinsman Eades Anjea Sleeping Lady Vineyard
    2019 Colgin Tychson Hill
    2019 Realm Absurd
    2019 Scarecrow
    2019 Harlan
    2019 Myriad Elysian
    2019 La Pelle Res
    2019 Magnificent 7
    2019 Cliff Lede Songbook
    2016 Colgin Tychson Hill

2019 Vice Versa Magnificent 7 - I can see why Brian (bsumoba) likes comparing the Realm Absurd to this wine. My first note on tasting this blind was that this wine was similar to wine 4 (Absurd). Elegant style, easy drinking and delicious! Glad I have a couple of these! 96+ to 97 and will still improve! But, so good now! Not quite up to par with the top 3, but like the Absurd, very close!

  • In the lineup, this wine got a bit outshined but it has no doubt been a consistent performer. Not much more to be said. It is an excellent wine.

  • Eyes Wide Shut - Day 2 (A quiet place): Nose: Big red fruits, a nice and welcoming whiff of clay, and deep earth.

Palate: Dark red fruits and a nice blend of bitter earth and minerals.

Definitely could've used a ton of air. Don't think this had much, if any, at all. Hard to rate at the moment. Big and delicious, but could use some extra space to spread out.

  • Outstanding. One caveat, we drank this and a ‘19 Vice Versa Las Piedras the same evening. Everyone preferred that to the Mag 7. Surprising. I wonder what a couple extra years would do to change that.

  • TOP SHELF WINE WEEKEND: A biiiiiiig daddy, the M7 is the most powerful and bicep-driven of all the 40+ wines served up over the course of three days. Having come off a tasting where the 2016 M7 was the belle of the ball in a blind tasting with eight other top flight napa Cabs, I was hit with this 2019 like a Fast and Furious XIX (not sure what number the franchise is on at this point). This M7 is in serious workout form right now. While the 2016 is perhaps an ice-skating Olympiad, the 2019 is in shiko foot stomp sumo mode. Huge blackberry and booze flavors are washed around with black rock, hunks of chocolate, and scorched earth. It’s just a big wine right now. Give it 3-5 years to chill out. All of the elements are there for greatness. It’ll always be a powerhouse, but heightened finesse and focus will surely come with time. I’m a fan, just make sure to don your bib and face shield for the blackberry spatter comin’ your way.
