Philippe Colin has improved a lot in the last few vintages. Les Chaumees is their biggest vineyard in their portfolio. 13.7% alcohol. 450-500L barrels. A lovely supple array of sweet pear fruits, juicy lemons and gentle creamy note. Good ripeness and generous body, medium + bodied. (85-86/100)

Chassagne 2019 with Stannary (Zoom!): Philippe notes that the heat and drought was an even bigger issue than the frost in 2019. They planned to start on the 12th of September but actually started on the 11th.
His parcel of Chaumees is next to his brother's and for the past ten years they've started picking within a day of one another every time. Philippe says it's his biggest 1er cru, with very rocky soil and his vines are c. 45 years old on average - so it's getting increasingly complex and more balanced (previously having a tendency to acidity). In a vintage like 2019 Chaumees will benefit as (being near St Aubin) it likes increased ripeness. 25-30% new oak typically - 30% in 2019 as there was less wine than expected - but the barrels are increasingly large.
Really delicious wine! Classic smoky, creamy nose, with green vegetation, but on the palate there's a real rush of flavour - it's soft but also pretty massive and there's a wonderful kick of phenolic bitterness on the finish. Very open, and Philippe thinks it will stay that way but also age well.

BYOB - "Orginal vs Copy" with Finewines.se (Sollentuna, Sweden): Very closed and anonymous, oak, insipid. Way better on the palate compared to the nose.
Keep!
