  • Strawberry preserves on white toast. Delicious.

  • First bottle from this shipment. Nice and what you would expect from a Chateauneuf. Nice texture, well balanced, not overly tannic.

  • So fresh, with beautiful ripe strawberries and cream on the nose bouquet. A 100% Grenache, CDP from Southern Rhone.

This is still young - Provides a good level of enjoyment now, but I can imagine that this would develop even more complexity over 5 or even 10 years.

Pleasant sweetness with a medium to medium+ level of acidity too, pairs nicely with heavy Chinese dishes.

Obviously does not have the complexity and nuances that is the "big brother" Grenaches de Pierre, which comes from the older vines, but this is simply great value, at USD 40.

  • So fresh, and I loved the beautiful ripe strawberries and cream on my nose. This 100% Grenache CdP from Southern Rhone is excellent.

Still young, whilst good now, it has aging potential 5-10 years too.

The sweetness and moderate acidity seems to work with heavy Chinese dishes like Tofu and Minced Pork, and Claypot belly pork. Had such a fun time hosting a welcome home dinner for dear friends back from Down Under, VN and AW, joined by Beernonster and KT too.

May not have the complexity of Grenaches de Pierre, which I believe comes from the older vines, but nevertheless at this price of USD40 its a bargain. We have a new star.. I loved this!

Domaine Giraud has a short history, starting only in the mid 1970s which happens to coincide with my birth year too...

Pierre and Mireille Giraud decided to change careers from the distillery business to the transformation into wine growers and winemakers!

As of 1998, its been managed by Marie Giraud and Francois Giraud. Their names appear on small font on the label adjacent to what bro Roy's observation, that each bottle was actually sequentially numbered.

The Domaine has grown to over 17 hectares of vines that are spread over 64 separate parcels in the Chateauneuf du Pape or CdP appellation.

This "basic" CdP I chose for our dinner was made fr vines of roughly 70 years old. Output is circa 30,000 bottles per year I estimate?

However, the Grenaches de Pierre @iampatt0 shared recently comes from 100% old vine Grenache, mostly over 100 years of age!

These in turn come from 2 vineyards, including the fabled La Crau with clay and sand. Output for this is a scarce 3,000 per annum!

  • Soft, supple, sweet and fresh, the wine is already just great to taste with its layers of sweet, lusciously textured red fruits, hints of cocoa, herbs, pepper and dashes of olives. This is already a treat to taste and it is only going to get better with a few years in the bottle. The wine was made from 100% Grenache. Drink from 2023 - 2034,
